Occupations in Demand and Visa Places

Each year the government announces the number of places in the migration program as part of the Budget. This announcement on the program size is what determines the number of skilled visas available each year.

The Skilled Occupation List is a list of occupations which are in immediate or long-term shortages in Australia. There are separate lists for applicants applying under the Skilled Independent and Skilled Sponsored Visa and Employer Sponsored Visa. In addition the Australian Government has announced in April 2017 that the Occupations lists are to be reviewed every six months.

MEDIUM AND LONG-TERM STRATEGIC SKILLS LIST (MLTSSL)

You must nominate an occupation from the MLTSSL List if you are applying for the Skilled Migrant Independent or Family Sponsored Points Tested visa or Temporary Graduate Work Stream.

SHORT-TERM SKILLED OCCUPATION LIST (STSOL)

The STSOL list is relevant if you apply for a General Skilled Migration visa (Permanent or Provisional Visa) and you are nominated by a State or Territory Government.

Australia Skilled Occupation List

Why having an occupation on the list is not enough:

Each visa has different requirements and criteria applicants must meet to apply for the relevant visa type, such as having relevant qualifications, work experience, English language skills and many others. Applicants who require a skills assessment as part of their visa application must ensure they meet the relevant skills assessment criteria and those applying for the points tested visa must ensure they meet the current visa pass mark. Due to a high number of prospective applicants, passing a basic pass mark might not be enough to secure an invitation to apply for the visa.

Taking the right path to a successful application is our forte. Contact us to discuss your visa options, eligibility criteria and how we can help with the application process from start to finish. We are MARA Registered Migration Agents and members of regulatory bodies  (CILEX, OISC, IAA) and therefore perfectly placed to help you with the Australian visa and emigration process.
