Australian Athletes in the 2024 Olympics

Australia is doing well in the 2024 Paris, France Olympics!

Celebrate Australia’s Olympic Legacy at Paris 2024

Australia’s rich Olympic history continues at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where the nation proudly sends over 460 athletes to compete in 33 sports. This impressive team size is set to be Australia’s third-largest contingent for overseas Games.

Who is competing?

Grace Brown’s recent victory highlights the country’s athletic prowess and fosters national pride. Emigrants to Australia can feel proud of their new home, a nation renowned for its sporting excellence.

In Tokyo 2020, Australia sent 486 athletes, the second-largest team since the Sydney Olympics. At Paris 2024, more than half the team consists of women, a remarkable shift from the 1924 Paris Games when no women represented Australia.

Olympic Diversity: Age, Gender and Ethnicity

It is always interesting to see who is competing from each country.  Are there more women than men?  What are the ages? Also in countries like Australia, it is interesting to see who many eithnic groups are represented. Sports enthusiasts like to spot those they know and follow their trajectory.   Notably, the team includes Shane Rose, 51, as the oldest member, and Arisa Trew, 14, as the youngest. The representation of ten Indigenous athletes, including Patty Mills and Conor Nicholas, adds to the team’s diversity and strength.

Key athletes to watch include high jumpers Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson, discus thrower Matthew Denny, boxer Harry Garside, and canoeist Jessica Fox. Australia’s swimming team, historically strong, also promises exciting performances.

What sports are represented by Australians?

The Olympics are a very traditional games which happen every 4 years and go back to classical times,  having started in Ancient Greece.  However they embrace sports through the ages. New sports like breaking, kayak cross, and basketball 3×3 see Australia’s debut, showing the nation’s evolving sporting landscape.

We are following Australian wins at the 2024 Olympics with interest and excitement and will be keeping applicants for Australian migration posted!
